Wildfire seen for miles as firefighters tackle blaze

Firefighters worked to put out a grass fire in Wirral, which could be seen from miles away.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service rushed to a section of grass just off Lang Lane in West Kirby at around 6.10pm on Friday, March 18 following reports of a wildfire. Two fire engines arrived at the scene just seven minutes after the initial call.

The fire was located on overgrown grass between Lang Lane and West Kirby War Memorial. Fire fighters used two high pressure hose reel jets to put out the blaze, which was two separate areas of around 20 square meters.

A further fire engine was called to the scene as a precaution due to workers losing light. One eyewitness shared an image with The ECHO, which showed how the fire could be seen raging from miles away.

No other emergency services are in attendance in West Kirby and nobody is believed to be injured. Firefighters are now working to dampen down after getting the blaze under control.
