The Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury 2 fight is just days away and the betting odds are having a back and forth fight all in itself. So much money is coming in on this fight in a consistent flow, that the line is moving by the hour. As recent as last night, according to the boxing odds at BetOnline, Wilder was a -124 favorite (wager $124 to win $100) while Fury was a +104 underdog (wager $100 to win $104). This has already changed overnight with Wilder sitting at -116 and Fury at -104 in the morning and now back to -125 for Wilder and +105 for Fury at the time I’m publishing this story with 58 percent of the current money coming in on Wilder and 42 percent on Fury. The oddsmakers have set the total rounds for this fight, also known as the over-under at over 10 1/2 rounds at -125 and under 10 1/2 rounds at +105. When it comes to the odds though, the real story and value could be with the prop bets. It’s not difficult to compare a heavyweight matchup like this to a Super Bowl event.
Even with the sports betting, we’re seeing some prop bets that are fan friendly and don’t necessarily have to do with the fight. Here are some prop bets that have value and some that don’t.
1) Deontay Wilder to Wear Facial Mask During Walkout. -1500 yes, +800 no. If history is an indicator, it could be safe to say that Wilder will continue his trend of walking out with a mask, but nothing is for certain. In the end, without any inside knowledge, it’s a fifty-fifty probability. If you’re able to lay $100 to win $800 and don’t mind rolling the dice, the line value is certainly there and could get your heart pumping before the bell for round one even sounds.
2) Donald Trump to Congratulate Winner on Twitter No -800, Yes +500. This is an interesting bet for a very specific reason. Let’s not forget that Wilder visited the White House and President Trump in 2018 for the pardoning of Jack Johnson. Wilder later went on to defend his visit to critics which might have garnered favor with the President. If he were to win, in addition to Trump’s history in boxing, it’s not inconceivable that we could see a Tweet about “his friend” Wilder. I would say the probability for a Presidential Tweet is high for a Wilder win, but not so much for a Fury victory.
3) Either Fighter to Lose Mouthpiece During Fight No -500, Yes +350. This is actually a bet that has a low probability of happening. While possible, if you take the amount of fights that take place on a weekly basis and the amount of mouthpieces that end up on the canvas, it’s probably close to one percent, if not less. These days, it takes a bit of work to get the mouthpiece of the mouth. I would pass on this one. No line value and low probability.
4) Fighters to Touch Gloves Before Fight Yes -1500. No +800. From a probability standpoint, I don’t see any reason why these two won’t touch gloves before the fight. Promotion aside, there’s a high probability that Wilder and Fury will honor the tradition of touching gloves before the fight. At -1500 there isn’t much line value there, but there’s a high probability it will happen.
