A tropical low bringing heavy rain and gusty winds to Western Australia's Pilbara region is unlikely to reach cyclone intensity until offshore.
Authorities issued a cyclone blue alert from Exmouth to Minilya Roadhouse as the system tracks towards the coast.
"The tropical low should continue moving over land parallel to the west Pilbara coast today and not reach tropical cyclone intensity until after it moves off the Ningaloo coast during Wednesday," the Bureau of Meteorology said on Tuesday.
The next tropical cyclone in the Australian region will be named Marian.
A severe weather warning remains in place for a broader area spanning from Karratha to Carnarvon.
Residents are being urged to prepare for wind gusts up to 100km/h and heavy rain, including isolated falls of up to 200mm.
People are being warned to secure boats, caravans and other loose items outside including LPG bottles, and have their emergency kits ready.
Authorities said residents should check in with friends and neighbours, while visitors and tourists should leave the warning area.
Communities between De Grey and Mardie in the Pilbara have been told that wind and storm surge dangers have passed, but to beware of storm damage such as downed powerlines and not to drive though floodwaters.
A flood warning is in place for the West Kimberley district, and minor flood warnings have been issued for the Fitzroy River and De Grey River catchment.
A flood watch is current for the Sandy Desert and Pilbara catchments.
