Wild robin makes itself at home on the sofa with pet dog to 'watch Hollyoaks' in Co Down

For a little bird weighing about the same as two £1 coins, this robin redbreast made a big impression in Co Down after befriending a family dog.

The wild bird showed up at Amanda Wilson Graham's house in Co Down on Sunday and made itself right at home.

Sales administrator, Amanda, from outside Dromore, said: "We were just pottering around the house putting up Christmas decorations and I walked into the living room only to find that a robin had flown in and our dog Lexi and the Robin were sitting on the sofa watching Hollyoaks.

"I'd only just finished putting our little robin decorations up and was talking about how they represent our loved ones who are no longer with us.

"Every time I see a robin it makes me think of my granny Jean and we always put up little Robin ornaments at Christmas. We were putting the light up ones in the garland when I walked in to find a live bird sitting on the settee.

"Lexi, our Jack Russell Pug cross, was happy just to sit there with the robin on the arm of the settee. The robin let us pick it up and we set it outside into the garden.

"I'm happy to think that little little robin was bringing us love and of my grannies Sue and Jean, my granda Bob and my husband Steven's grandparents Muriel and Maurice.

"If it wasn't a sign that they are always with us, then I don't know what is. After all, the old adage is that robins appear, when loved ones are near."
