Wild Place Project forced to close today - statement to customers

Wild Place Project has been forced to close today (August 26) because of fallen down trees.

The zoo announced the news via social media and said the reason for the closure was because of the strong winds yesterday.

They have also confirmed that people who were booked to visit the zoo today will be contacted by one of the team shortly.

Gusts of up to 60mph battered Bristol and surrounding areas yesterday (August 25) as Storm Francis brought heavy rain and strong winds.

The Met Office also issued an amber weather warning for wind.

On social media they wrote: "Following high winds across site yesterday, a number of trees have fallen around Wild Place.

"Unfortunately, we have had to close for today (Wednesday 26 August). If you have booked a visit for today, please bear with us - our team will be in touch."

Since reopening in June, visitors have had to pre-book and pre-purchase their tickets online for specific timed slots and visitors have to follow strict new safety rules including one-way routes and extra hand washing facilities.

Despite initial fears over the future of both Bristol Zoo and the Wild Place Project during lockdown, the zoo has been able to make a record number of bookings since reopening.

A spokesperson for Wild Place Project confirmed they did not yet know when they would reopen.

They said: "No decision on re-opening yet.

"Wild Place Project remains closed while the site is fully assessed by specialists.

"We will be updating people through the Wild Place Project website."
