Wild elephants go on rampage in Palakkad

PALAKKAD: People of Kottekkad and Arangottukulambu in Malampuzha grama panchayat are living in constant fear due to the frequent raids by wild elephants in their agriculture farms and settlements.

On Friday, wild elephants destroyed one acre of paddy of Ajithkumar of Kottekkad. “Two elephants and a calf raided the paddy crops, which were planted two months ago,” Ajithkumar said.

Malampuzha grama panchayat president Radhika Madhavan said that a meeting of Jana Jagratha Smithy held the other day had decided to cut the undergrowth bush on both the sides of the roads in the area to get more visibility for travellers. Street lights will also be installed in areas facing wild elephant attacks.
