Wild dogs savage lambs in field bloodbath and two are killed

Two lambs hunted by a pair of husky-type dogs have had to be destroyed after suffering terrible injuries.

Astonishingly a woman had allowed the dogs off the lead as she walked through fields with livestock in them.

Now the furious farm owners have hit out at people striding through their land oblivious to the dangers.

One of the lambs was finally found terrified, dripping with blood and cowering in a garden in Erskine’s West Freelands area after a public alert.

The horror happened on Monday morning as a flock of winter lambs were grazing in a field at Nether Southbar Farm at Inchinnan.

A woman brazenly walked through gates that had recklessly been left open, then let her dogs off to roam wild.

The dog had savaged the rear leg of the cross bred lamb, which was under a year old, and then gouged into the stomach area with its fangs.

The farmer involved, who asked not to be named, said: “Someone from a house that overlooks the field saw the dogs worrying the sheep

“They then phoned to say one had been caught by one of dogs and was ripping into it.

“By the time I got there the woman had grabbed the dogs and put them back on the lead.

“She was in hysterics and the lamb had tried to get to safety underneath a fence and hide.

“While police were taking statements the animal had disappeared into the West Freelands housing estate.

“A boy later messaged me to say the lamb was in his grandad’s garden so we brought her back to the farm and the vet was there waiting.

“The first lamb had such extensive injuries from the the attack that there was no skin left for the vet to be able to stitch.

“Later in the day we found another lamb with injuries and a broken leg.”

Police confirmed a 49-year-old woman will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal for “sheep worrying”.

The farmer added: “Lockdown has encouraged a lot more people to walk through our fields with dogs.

“These people don’t realise the natural instinct of these dogs is to hunt.

“Sheep will run and the first thing the dog does is chase it.

“They cause such damage.

“This woman walked through a double set of gates that were tied securely and were just left open.

“It is terrible what has happened.

“Had the dogs still been running wild when I arrived I would have had the right to shoot them.”
