A herd of wild boar is reportedly on the loose near a village in Scotland. And police are urging the public to steer clear of the beasts.
Wild boar are protective of their young and may attack if they feel under threat. Dog walkers in the area have also advised to keep their pets on leads.
It is understood the hogs were released near Strachur in Argyll and Bute. And as reported by the Daily Record, sightings were reported last Friday, October 28.
A police spokesperson said: "Police received a report of wild boars being released in the Strachur area on Friday, October 28, 2022, and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. Although boars are generally peaceful animals, we ask that the public do not approach or attempt to feed them as they can be very protective of their young.
"We also ask that any members of the public walking their dogs near the boars keep their distance and keep their dog on a lead around them." Wild boar were hunted to extinction in Scotland centuries ago. But since the 1990s, new populations have established themselves after escaping from farms or being illegally reintroduced.
