Wigan Warriors player ratings as Liam Farrell stands out in gritty Huddersfield Giants win

Umyla Hanley : Struggled to find a way into the game in the early stages but grew into it and performed well in the full-back position. Came close to a try only to see play pulled back for offside. 7

Sam Halsall : Showed nous to win a penalty under the high ball on his own try line in the first half. Turned in a mature performance. 7

Jake Bibby : Drove forward well but saw his attacking opportunities limited on his 100 th Super League appearance. 6

Oliver Gildart: Blew the game open with his breakthrough to set up Liam Farrell. Carried well throughout. 7

Liam Marshall: Swallowed everything that came his way and constantly put his hand up to make the hard yards. 7

Harry Smith : Brought his kicking boots and had a key role to play in the first try of the game with a teasing cross-field kick, put Gildart through a gap in the second half, too. 7

Thomas Leuluai: Looked to make things happen and controlled the game well in the second half. 7

Brad Singleton : Pushed hard in both halves with some strong running, fierce in defence as always. 7

Brad O’Neill: Got Wigan off to a steady start in the first half and shared the role well with Amir Bourouh. 7

Tony Clubb: Two shorter stints on the field, but he left it all out there. 6

Liam Farrell: Probably the best man in a Wigan shirt. He scored the decisive try but made plenty of metres as he looked to run at youngster Will Pryce. 8

Kai Pearce-Paul: Always looking for the offload. He kept the ball moving and asked questions with his running game. 7

Oliver Partington: Aggressive through the middle of the park, he carried well, got through plenty of work defensively, too. Played the full 80 in a huge stint. 7

Amir Bourouh: A bright spark during his time on the field. Made a couple of testing runs out of dummy half. 7

Mitch Clark: Walked his way over the line for the softest try of his career to get the scoreboard ticking over. 6

Ethan Havard : Most of his best work came in defence but he turned in another solid shift. 7

Joe Shorrocks: Injured his knee in the first half but kept going and played a role in Wigan’s second try. 6
