Wigan Warriors player ratings as Bevan French shines on his Super League return

Wigan Warriors kept up their impressive start to the campaign with an 22-12 win over Castleford Tigers at the DW Stadium.

Here, we rate the performers in Cherry and White.

Zak Hardaker: The full-back is too much for Super League teams to handle at the minute, made metres for fun and swallowed everything kicked his way. 8

Bevan French (starman): Back in the side after missing the opening three weeks of the competition and immediately showed his class with a try in the first half. Got over again in the second after a measured kick from Jackson Hastings. 8

Liam Farrell: Made plenty of metres up the field, defended resolutely and helped French over the line with some quick hands. 7

Willie Isa: Constantly showed to make the hard yards but the ball never came his way in attacking areas. 7

Jake Bibby : Made metres but couldn’t find an opening. 6

Harry Smith: His short kicking game was off in the first half, but helped Wigan to level the scores with a break on the edge. Made improvements with the boot in the second half and really showed his class. 7

Jackson Hastings: Laid the platform for Wigan’s first try before having a hand in both of French’s efforts. 8

Tony Clubb: The prop defended really well in the first half as both sides went at each other hammer and tong, re-entered the play in the second half and helped make sure of the result. 7

Sam Powell : The hooker was lively around the ruck and came up with the goods when it mattered, touching down with a few minutes of the game remaining to make sure of the victory. 8

Brad Singleton: Had a fierce battle with Liam Watts through the middle of the park. Made his presence known defensively. 7

Morgan Smithies: Another impressive night for the youngster at second row. He found plenty of success with the ball in hand and looked to enjoy his defensive duties on the night. 7

John Bateman: Ran hard and looked to get the better of his man on occasions. Almost created a try late on with a superb offload. 7

Oli Partington: Relished the high intensity battle in the first half and got about defensively to make some big hits. 7

Joe Shorrocks: The youngster continues to grow into his role off the bench. 7

Joe Bullock: Made a huge impact off the bench in the second half and used all his size and strength. 7

Liam Byrne: Wigan seized control when he was on the field. 7

Ethan Havard: Found joy with the ball in hand but his best work came defensively. 7
