Wigan Warriors handed Championship club in Challenge Cup third round draw

Wigan Warriors face a trip to Championship outfit York City Knights in the third round of the Challenge Cup.

The third round draw took place this morning, with Adrian Lam's side the second team out of the hat.

York, who have defeated Sheffield Eagles and London Broncos to reach the third round stage, are one of the favourites in the second-tier this year.

Wigan, the competition's most successful club after winning the trophy 19 times, haven't won the competition since 2013. They will make the trip to York's new state-of-the-art LNER Community Stadium on the weekend of April 10-11.

Adrian Lam's side reached the semi-final stage last year before falling short to Leeds. They last reached the final in 2017, eventually losing to Hull FC.

Elsewhere, there are four all Super League ties, with holders Leeds set to take on Super League champions St Helens.

Hull KR will host Castleford, Wakefield face a visit to Catalans and Leigh Centurions will take on Huddersfield Giants.

The semi-finals will take place on the weekend of June 5-6, with the showpiece to be held at Wembley on July 17th. It's hoped that there will be no limit on how many fans can attend by then.

Challenge Cup third round draw:

York City Knights v Wigan Warriors

Swinton Lions v Warrington Wolves

Hull KR v Castleford Tigers

Catalans Dragons v Wakefield Trinity

Featherstone Rovers v Hull FC

St Helens v Leeds Rhinos

Leigh Centurions v Huddersfield Giants

Widnes Vikings v Salford Red Devils
