Wigan Warriors ace Jake Bibby backing Catalans Dragons in Grand Final

Two-time Super League Grand Finalist Jake Bibby is hoping Catalans Dragons can write a new story in British rugby league by becoming Super League champions this weekend.

The Wigan Warriors star has played in the past two title deciders, first with Salford Red Devils in 2019 and then last year with Adrian Lam’s side.

Bibby tasted defeat on both occasions at the hands of St Helens, who will now bid to clinch a ‘three-peat’ by emulating the great Leeds Rhinos side by winning a third successive Grand Final.

“Hopefully Catalans can get the win on Saturday,” Bibby told Rugby League Live.

“They’ve had a great season and won the League Leaders’ Shield.

“It’ll be a tough game but I think Catalans should win it to be fair.

“Look at the team they have got there now under Steve McNamara.

“It’s full of experienced players who have won things in the game and I feel like they deserve to go all the way.

“My old Salford team-mate Gil Dudson has been great for Catalans this year, so I’d certainly like to see them do it.

“He’s consistent and hard-working and then you have the likes of Sam Tomkins, who for me has been the best player in Super League this season. Easily.”

Bibby, a Wiganer who grew up in the game’s heartlands, is delightful to see the progress that Catalans have made under McNamara.

Having won the Challenge Cup for the first time in 2018, beating Warrington Wolves at Wembley, the French outfit can now create more history by winning their first Super League title.

“I don’t see why people have problems with Catalans,” added Bibby.

“Imagine if Salford had won it in 2019. It gives hope to everyone else in the competition that it’s possible for a team like Salford can get there.

“Catalans have come a long way and, having lifted the Challenge Cup in 2018, it would be great to see them win the big one now. I’ll be rooting for them.”
