Wigan v Cardiff prediction - back Bogle to get Cardiff off to a flier

It's all kicking off this weekend.

And if you're having a punt on Cardiff's first fixture of The Championship season, have a quick read of our Pools punting preview.

We've asked our squad of first team writers, the men and women who know their teams best, to give us an insight into what we should be looking out for this weekend.

Tom Coleman gives his rundown on the Bluebirds tricky trip to Wigan on the opening Saturday.

Win, lose or draw?

There's no doubt Wigan are making progress under Paul Cook but, despite a decent recent record against Cardiff (they've only lost two of their last 14 games against the Bluebirds), I still expect Neil Warnock's side to get the job done here. It won't be pretty and might not be all that convincing, but I'd go for an away win, 1-0, which is a wallet-boosting 13/2 with thepools.com.

Who’s a good bet for first scorer?

If he plays, Omar Bogle has to be seen as a decent shout. The former Grimsby Town forward was Cardiff's stand out performer in pre-season, and appears to have found a decent bit of form in front of goal. He's 11/2 first scorer with thepools.com Otherwise, I'd look to Nathaniel Mendez-Laing. The winger has the pace to give manay a full-back nightmares in this division, and I'm expecting a big season from him this time around. He's 17/2 first scorer and 10/3 anytime with thepools.com.

Who’s on the naughty step?

New signing Will Vaulks isn't afraid of a tackle, and didn't exactly hesitate in getting stuck in during the trip to North America.

Who’s on pens?

Joe Ralls was on spot kick duty last time Cardiff were here. Fully expect it to be the same again.

Will you keep a clean sheet?

I would say Warnock should be confident of keeping a clean sheet. They kept 10 of them in the Premier League after all. And Both Teams to Score 'No' is 10/11 with thepools.com.
