Immigration enforcement joined police and council officers in a huge crackdown operation earlier this week.

A total of nine premises across the area were visited altogether.

Five employees at three takeaways were found to have no permission to work in the UK.

One man was found working illegally at McTuckys, on Market Street.

Another man was found working illegally at Dixi Chicken and Pizza, also on Market Street.

At Chicago Pizza, on Bridge Street, three people were found working illegally.

Three civil penalty referral notices were issued against the businesses, totalling £100,000, a spokesman for the Home Office said.

In a statement, the ministerial department said: “Immigration enforcement supported a multi-agency operation within the Hindley area on 14 and 15 September.
