Wigan Athletic paid an unusual tribute at half-time during their League One win over Portsmouth – to a supporter's dead duck.
The bird, called Keith, died earlier in the week, and was remembered on the big screen at the DW Stadium as the club held a moment of applause.
Keith belonged to Latics fan Daryl Ravden, who shared the unusual moment on Twitter, writing: “Our big lad on the screen at footie”.
Keith rose to prominence ahead of the game when some Wigan supporters mistakenly thought a WhatsApp message saying “Keith is dead” referred to a fellow fan who has been fighting cancer.
The club tweeted after the match that the supporter concerned, also called Keith, will be invited to a hospitality box for the next home game against Doncaster.
On the pitch Wigan were able to honour Keith's memory with a 1-0 victory thanks to Callum Lang's second-half goal as Pompey slipped to a first league defeat of the season.
The victory leaves Leam Richardson's side flying high in fourth place in the League One table, a place above their opponents on goal difference.
