Wigan murder victim named as detectives release images of men they want to speak to

A man who died outside Wigan Parish Church has been named and detectives have released images of a group of men they want to speak in connection with his death.

A murder investigation was launched following the death of Steven James McMyler on Thursday evening.

It is believed the 34-year-old, from Wigan, died following an altercation at the scene, in Wigan town centre.

Police were called to the church, in Bishopgate, shortly before 7.50pm on Thursday.

An air ambulance had already been sent to the area and paramedics attempted to treat the victim but he died at the scene.

Three men – aged 30, 19 and 18 – were arrested on suspicion of murder and an 18-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

All four individuals have been released on bail under investigation.

Forensic officers could be seen combing the church gardens on Friday.

A large cordon was in place with officers guarding all public entrances.

Greater Manchester Police urged anyone who may have spotted a group of men in the area between 7-7.30pm to get in touch as soon as possible.

Detectives have now released a set of images and are appealing for anyone with information about the identity of any of the four men pictured to get in touch.
