Wigan homeowners warned to be 'extra vigilant' after spate of burglaries in one area

Residents in Wigan are being urged to remain 'extra vigilant' after a series of burglaries.

Police say there has been an increase in break-ins at homes in the Hindley and Hindley Green areas of the town.

Officers in the area are currently investigating the issue.

Homeowners have been warned to make sure windows and doors are securely locked.

In a statement, a spokesperson for GMP's Leigh, Atherton and Hindley team, said: "Please be extra vigilant when securing your homes.

"The neighbourhood team have a rise in burglaries in this location. Enquiries are ongoing to bring these offenders to justice.

"Please keep your doors and windows locked and do not leave keys in your door or in view. Look out for your neighbours.

"If you see someone acting suspiciously in your neighbourhood let us know.

"We can be contacted online via the GMP website as an alternative to the 101 phone number.

"Always ring 999 in an emergency"
