Wigan forward Thelo Aasgaard's warning to Sunderland after shock Latics win

Wigan forward Thelo Aasgaard 'can't wait' for the visit of Sunderland on Tuesday night as the Latics try to mount a late League One survival bid.

The Black Cats head to the North West as firm favourites, despite their 2-1 defeat to Charlton on Saturday, with Lee Johnson's side looking to ensure their promotion bandwagon stays firmly on track.

Tuesday's opponents Wigan pulled off a shock 4-1 victory over Doncaster at the weekend to give their hopes of staying up a major boost.

A win tomorrow night would move them out of the relegation places ahead of the final weeks of the season, and forward Aasgaard, who scored just his third goal of the season in that victory at the Keepmoat, can't wait to face the high-flying Black Cats.

“I can’t wait for Tuesday,” he said following the win over Doncaster.

“It’ll be a huge game and every game is a cup final for us now and we need to find them three points and get them points together that will keep us in this league.

"We’ve got our targets and got our goals, it’s up to us now to execute them now.”

Aasgard felt the win over Doncaster was just reward following a series of better performances which haven't brought the results they felt they deserved,.

“It's a huge performance for us in the circumstances that we are in.," he told Wigan's official website. "Credit to the lads, we’ve been working so hard in training on shape work and on tactics. I’m so proud of the lads.

“It's been frustrating when you’re putting such good performance in but not quite getting the results and not putting the ball in the back of the net. But it shows the persistence that this team has. We’ll never give up and we’ll fight until the end.”
