Wigan chairman aims bizarre dig at Tottenham amid Harry Kane transfer speculation

With rumours swirling around Harry Kane's future, a host of European's elite sides have been linked with the England captain.

Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea are all reportedly keen on signing Tottenham's frontman in a deal that would likely be the biggest signing of the summer.

Kane remains disgruntled with Spurs' recent struggles but football.london understands that while Kane is frustrated with life at Tottenham, he hasn't informed them of a desire to leave the club.

However, Wigan's new chairman, Talal Mubarak Al-Hammad, has jokingly claimed the Latics' are in the race for Kane's signature.

The Bahrain businessman tweeted: "Dream big – dream very big. Work hard – work very hard, don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon. Up The Tics"

A Wigan fan then replied to his post with a joke about the club signing Kane to which Al-Hammad replied, "Having lifted silverware more recently than Tottenham Hotspur we are continuing to monitor the Harry Kane situation closely."

Al-Hammad officially became chairman of Wigan in March after promising to take the Tics back to the pinnacle of English football.

Wigan famously provided a FA Cup final upset in 2013, defeating favourites Manchester City 1-0 thanks to a late Ben Watson goal.

Tottenham, however, have struggled for silverware in recent years, failing to win a domestic trophy since their league cup triumph over Chelsea in 2008.

They came close this season, reaching the EFL Cup final only to lose to an 82nd minute Aymeric Laporte strike who could have been sent off earlier in the match.
