Wigan boss Paul Cook addresses interest in exciting Everton youngster as transfer speculation grows

Wigan Athletic boss Paul Cook has addressed speculation that Antonee Robinson could be returning to the club this summer.

The Everton full back spent last term on loan with the Championship side and impressed despite missing three months of the season through injury.

The 21-year-old made 26 league appearances for his temporary side and bagged one assist, with many Wigan fans desperate to see their club bring the USA international back on board for the 2019/20 term.

The ECHO understands Wigan have submitted their interest in taking the left back, although an official bid is yet to be made.

However, when asked about the speculation surrounding the youngster's future, Wigan manager Cook stayed coy and stated he didn't want to talk about player's futures.

"I appreciate the media has a job to do, and I understand the speculation," he told Wigan Today.

"But it’s grossly unfair on lads to be talking in public about their futures.

"There’s talk of us signing Jedi [Robinson], but then we don’t get him, we get another left-back.

"What I can say is we are working very hard behind the scenes to bring in good players.

"Players who have been here already, obviously we will know more about them than players who haven’t, and would give them a head start.

"But does that mean we will be bringing in lads like that? Not necessarily."
