Wigan band The Lathums take over Wigan Market after announcing the release of debut album

Music fans took over Wigan on Saturday after a critically-acclaimed band announced they would be making an appearance at Wigan Market.

The Lathums, who hail from Wigan, are set to release their debut album later this year following a successful stint supporting Blossoms and two sold-out headline tours.

Described as a fusion between the Arctic Monkeys and The Coral, the four-piece band announced earlier this week that they will release their debut album 'How Beautiful Life Can Be’ in September.

To coincide with the album announcement, the band also revealed they would make an impromptu appearance at a stall on Wigan Market on Saturday (July 31).

Posting ahead of the pitstop, the band wrote on Facebook: “To celebrate our debut album announcement we are setting up a stall at Wigan market tomorrow.

“We're gonna have a load of merch with us and you'll be able to pre-order an exclusive and limited first edition of the album which you can only get in person.”

Lines of crowds could be seen queuing up to be some of the lucky ones to get their hands on the exclusive merch.

A video posted on The Lathum’s twitter account on Saturday showed people queuing up for the stall, where the band were signing t-shirts and posters.

“Wigan what a turnout,” the post wrote.

“You never let us down ❤️”

The band have been on an upward spiral since signing to Island Records.

Their single ‘All My Life’ reached the top of the UK vinyl charts while they performed to a packed out crowd at an American diner during Kendal Calling last year at the request of Tim Burgess.

Not only that, but the band also helped raise more than £4,000 to support Wigan Athletic Football Club after fans took part in a fundraising raffle to win a one-off vinyl.

The Lathums will release their debut album on September 24.
