Wigan Athletic have become the latest League One club to suffer from a coronvirus outbreak.
The Latics have become the eleventh club to have games suspended since December 15. Their games against AFC Wimbledon on January 6 and Hull City on January 9 have been postponed, pending an EFL investigation.
Like Sunderland, the majority of those clubs are back playing again.
However, the likelihood of further outbreaks is very high and a number of managers and players across all levels of English football have called for a circuit break or their respective seasons to be suspended.
A statement posted on the Latics website read: "Latics informed the EFL today that they would be unable to fulfil the fixtures due to several positive COVID-19 test results and the requirements for players and staff to self-isolate as per EFL and government guidance in order to mitigate against the risk of further infection.
"Wigan Athletic’s next two Sky Bet League One fixtures against AFC Wimbledon (Wednesday 6 January) and Hull City (Saturday 9 January) have been suspended.
"We informed the EFL that we would be unable to fulfil our next two fixtures following several positive COVID-19 tests and the requirements for our players and staff to self-isolate as per EFL and government guidance, in order to mitigate against the risk of further infection.
"We now wish for a safe and speedy recovery to all those who are affected.
"The circumstances surrounding the postponement will now be subject of an investigation in accordance with EFL regulations."
