Wigan Athletic receive midfielder injury boost ahead of Bolton Wanderers clash

Wigan Athletic midfielder Jordan Cousins could come back into contention for the first team after returning from injury ahead of the big clash against Bolton Wanderers.

The Latics host Wanderers at the DW Stadium this Saturday in a 12.30pm kick-off in League One.

Leam Richardson's side are hoping to achieve automatic promotion out of League One and back to the Championship, and can do so with the division title.

Wanderers meanwhile harbour now slim play-off hopes, sitting 11 points from the top six with seven games of their season left.

But ahead of the derby clash, the Latics have been boosted by the return of midfielder Cousins.

The midfielder came off during the 4-0 victory over Bolton in October and later suffered a torn thigh muscle on the road versus Shrewsbury Town upon his return to action in early December.

But Cousins has since returned to action against Millwall at Christopher Park as he played 70 minutes for the club's under-23s team.

And the midfielder is now looking forward to contributing to the first team after a spell out on the sidelines.

“I’ve been working hard throughout the injury and it’s good to be back out there,” Cousins told Wigan Today.

"It was a bit of an emotional moment for me today, because people didn’t think I would play again this season.

"Hopefully I can now help and contribute to the first team."
