Wigan Athletic defender Tom Pearce is expected to miss the remainder of the Sky Bet League One season.
Pearce, 22, sustained an injury to his ankle midway through the second-half in the side’s 3-home defeat against AFC Wimbledon on Saturday February 6.
The former Leeds United defender missed Tuesday’s 1-0 victory over fellow strugglers Northampton Town - and Latics caretaker boss Leam Richardson has confirmed that Pearce’s season is likely to be over.
"It's disappointing news with Tom," Richardson said.
"He got a bang at the weekend, he's been for a few scans which have all come back negative.
“He's now going to see a surgeon, and might be having an operation.
"We're waiting for confirmation on that, but that might be Tom for the rest of the season."
While Pearce would undoubtedly be a massive loss if he does miss the final 20 Sky Bet League One games of the season, Scotland Under 19’s intentional Luke Robinson looked extremely promising on his first senior start at the PTS Academy Stadium on Tuesday night.
