Wigan Athletic League One match postponed after positive coronavirus tests for opponents

Wigan Athletic's match next weekend against AFC Wimbledon has been postponed after a number of positive coronavirus tests within the Dons squad, the EFL has said.

The Latics were due to head to newly opened Plough Lane stadium next weekend to take on the London side in League One.

But the game has now been called off for the time being due to positive coronavirus tests within the Wimbledon camp.

The circumstances surrounding the postponement will be investigated.

A statement from the EFL read: "Next weekend’s Sky Bet League One fixture between AFC Wimbledon and Wigan Athletic has been suspended and will not take place on Saturday 14 November as scheduled.

"Due to the number of positive cases of COVID-19 within the AFC Wimbledon squad and the requirement for players and staff to subsequently self-isolate as per EFL and Government guidance, the Club has advised the EFL it is unable to safely fulfil next weekend’s fixture.

"The circumstances surrounding the postponement will now be the subject of investigation in accordance with EFL Regulations.

"A revised date for the rearranged fixture will be confirmed in due course."

The Latics currently sit bottom of the League One table, while the Wombles are 11th.

Wigan are in FA Cup first round action tomorrow against Chorley at the DW Stadium.
