Wigan Asda Superstore forced to close after electrical fire in early hours

A large Asda Superstore at Wigan's Robin Park was forced to close this morning (Tuesday) following a fire.

The fire, believed to have been started by an electrical fault, caused smoke damage in a backroom area of the building but did not affect the rest of the supermarket.

Fire crews were called to the scene at 5.30am and spent less than an hour at the store.

"Our Wigan store has reopened following an electrical issue owing to a small fire on the site this morning," they said.

"We would like to thank our colleagues for their quick response and apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused by the store being closed.’"

Nobody is thought to have been injured in the fire.

The blaze is believed to have affected the stores electrical supply but this issue was resolved.
