Wife who murdered husband then joked with police branded 'pure evil' by his sister

Killer wife Penelope Jackson was last night branded “pure evil” by her sister-in-law, who says the “monster” should never taste freedom.

Jennifer Jackson spoke out after the 66-year-old retired accountant began a minimum 18-year life sentence for stabbing her husband David, 78, to death.

Jennifer said she could never forgive her brother’s killer – who infamously joked with police about wearing Marks and Spencer pyjamas when she was arrested at the couple’s bungalow in Berrow, Somerset, in February.

Jackson had claimed in court to be a domestic violence victim in a bid to avoid being convicted of murdering the retired lieutenant colonel.

But Jennifer, who is 14 months younger than her brother, said: “She’s a horrible person, she’s a liar and she’s the evil monster – not David.

“She’s pure evil. I hope she never walks free. She’s got what she deserves.”

Bristol Crown Court heard how Jackson left David to bleed to death on the kitchen floor after a row. She ignored pleas from a 999 call handler to help save his life, instead driving the knife into his chest one more time.

Police video footage showed her telling officers: “I thought I would get his heart; well, he hasn’t got one.”

Jennifer said: “Listening to the emergency call of him calling for help while she was stabbing him is just horrible. I will never be able to forgive her. No one deserves to die the way my brother did.”

Jennifer and David shared weekly video calls during lockdown. She said that only weeks before the murder, Jackson had booked four cruises with David, as well as three months in Spain.

Jennifer said: “I know he would never have hurt her. He was an absolute gentleman – the one who was always trying to calm her down. She was far more the bully and the alcoholic.

“If she’d really had the kind of life she’s said she had with David, would she really have stayed with him for so long?”

She said she never once witnessed any physical violence, and Jackson never confided that David had ever threatened her. “They did have their moments after a drink, and sometimes Penny would become argumentative, but David would pat her arm.”

Meanwhile, a relative of Jackson’s previous husband yesterday called her a “pension hunter” who targeted men for financial security.

Four-times wed Jackson found third husband Alan Warrender dead in 1993. An inquest ruled that the RAF engineer killed himself due to “marital stress”.

It emerged she had been having an affair with David while Alan was working in Saudi Arabia.

Alan’s sister-in-law, Mary, 62, said: “Just like Alan, David had a good pension, and I believe that is why she went after him. What Penny wants, Penny gets. It is as simple as that.”

Will and probate documents we obtained show David signed over his entire £280,000 estate to Jackson in December 2015.

But the conviction means she will never see a penny.
