Wife Swap Brexit Special contestant to stand as parliamentary candidate for Green Party in Broxtowe

The Green Party has announced its candidate for the General Election in Broxtowe.

NHS psychotherapist Kat Boettge was the party’s lead candidate in EU elections in 2014 and 2019 - and two years ago appeared on a Brexit special of the popular TV show Wife Swap.

The Channel Four programme sees families from different walks of life swap places for a fortnight.

In the show, the Green party candidate - and remain campaigner - swapped lives with a Brexit-supporting Nigel Farage fan from Canvey Island, who hid a Farage gnome in her garden.

She will be standing against incumbent MP and fellow remainer, Anna Soubry, who left the Conservatives to join what is now known as the Independent Group for Change.

In 2017, she won with a majority of 863 votes in the constituency, which voted to leave by 54.6 percent in the 2016 referendum.

Labour’s Greg Marshall and Conservative candidate Darren Henry have also announced they will stand.

However, the full list of candidates for the election on December 12 will not be known until mid-November, the deadline for registering to stand.

Ms Boettge said: “The Greens have been consistently on the right side of politics, speaking out about the climate catastrophe, demanding social justice, and opposing failed austerity.”

“Climate catastrophe must be a priority. It is the greatest threat to humanity. We in the Green Party have been fighting to tackle climate change for decades now. We must act now.

“A vote for the Greens is a vote for the reform of our broken political system.

“Currently, the Conservatives and Labour are an embarrassment to our country. It’s time to move away from the two-party system, it’s time to do politics differently.”

Other candidates currently confirmed are -

Darren Henry - Conservative

Greg Marshall - Labour

Anna Soubry - The Independent Group for Change

Kat Boettge - Green
