Wife's tribute to dad-of-two after his tragic death on 39th birthday

Tributes have been paid to an "amazing" dad-of-two after he died on his 39th birthday.

Matthew Jackson passed away on December 7 last year after becoming unwell at his family home in Hucknall.

Matt worked as a bus driver and was described as a "big family man" who was loved by everybody who met him.

He leaves behind his wife Selina Jackson and their two children Mya, 17, and Logan, 12.

She said: "As a person, everybody loved him. He'd just make everybody happy.

"He lived for his family - he always wanted the best for his kids. He was an amazing man."

The pair got married in 2007 after meeting five years earlier in Bulwell, before eventually settling in Hucknall.

Matt's health problems started in 2017 when the family went on holiday to Florida.

He felt some pain in one of his testicles and, after going home and seeing doctors, was told he needed an operation in 2018.

Matt was told he had a dead testicle and that it needed to be removed - although it wasn't cancerous. However, after the operation had been completed, Matt began to struggle with severe swelling and pain from his scrotum.

"It became worse and worse," Selina told Nottinghamshire Live.

"He couldn't work and gained a lot of weight very quickly."

Matt's health continued to deteriorate and Selina became his carer as he was unable to go up the stairs of their home. He would fall asleep at random times during the day and often feel very sick or confused.

Then, on his 39th birthday, he suffered a fall when he went to stand up - shattering a glass coffee table.

While Selina was at work, his parents who were visiting him rang her to say they had called an ambulance after his health had deteriorated.

She said: "I got home and there were three ambulances outside my house, the fire brigade were there.

"When I got in the house I was told his blood pressure was so high they were finding it hard to control it and he had to go to A&E.

"I was told to ring them between 45 minutes and an hour later. I rang dead on 45 minutes but was told he hadn't been processed yet.

"Within 30 seconds of me hanging up, the phone rang. A doctor told me I needed to come to the hospital as he wasn't going to make it.

"When we got there, they told us he had died."

A gofundme page has now been set up to raise money for the Jackson family after Matt's death.
