Wife's heartbreaking tribute as cyclist killed in horror crash near Dublin Airport named locally

A cyclist who was tragically killed near Dublin Airport on Saturday morning has been named locally as his wife paid a heartbreaking tribute to her "soulmate".

David Steele, 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene after he was involved in a collision with a car when cycling on the R108 near St Margaret’s at approximately 11:45am over the weekend.

The driver of the car was also treated for non-life threatening injuries by ambulance services.

David's wife Karen, who lived in Swords with her husband, sadly confirmed the news on social media saying it was the 'hardest post she's ever had to write'.

She said: "On Saturday at 2pm my world was torn apart when two Gardai called to my house.

"The love of my life, my husband, my soulmate was out cycling with all his buddies when he was killed instantly.

"He loved his cycling so much and died doing what he loved.

"My world will never be the same and I am absolutely heartbroken. My Ironman forever. The big strong man forever."

Gardai are still looking for witnesses or anyone with any information about the crash to come forward.

A Garda spokesman added: "We are appealing for anyone with information, particularly any road users who may have witnessed the collision or have dash-cam footage, to contact them at Dublin Airport Garda Station on 01 666 4950, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station."
