Wife pays tribute to dad of one killed during 'queue jumping' row at Screwfix store

The wife of a dad of one who died after he was assaulted outside a DIY store over a 'queue jumping' row has described him as "strong, brave and wonderful".

Andrew Webster, 51, died in hospital after he was attacked in the Gateway Trade Park in Warrington, Cheshire, just after 10am on Thursday July 2.

He was reportedly involved in an altercation while queuing outside DIY store Screwfix.

In a statement released on Thursday, his wife Lisa said: "Andy was such a strong, brave, wonderful husband, but more so he was a brilliant father.

"He made us feel safe and secure and built our family a great future.

"He worked hard as a builder, always perfecting every job he completed, he was never scared of a hard day's work and could always be found perfecting his garage or working on his next project.

"Andy was so well thought of in the town and so many called upon him for help and advice, whether that be personal or business."

She said their 12-year-old daughter Ruby was the "apple of his eye".

She added: "Words cannot describe how much we miss him and how much of a hero he is to us.

"Our time was cut short but we can still feel his love and loyalty and his many stories will be forever told by all who knew him."

As part of the investigation into Mr Webster's death a 24-year-old man was arrested but later released on bail pending further inquiries, police said.

Earlier this week Cheshire Constabulary appealed for a potential witness seen on CCTV outside the Screwfix store while Mr Webster was being treated by paramedics to come forward.

The man is described as white with a greying beard and dark hair, wearing a dark blue zip up jacket and a dark blue t-shirt with a lighter coloured logo across the chest.
