Wife of Sir Sean Connery's brother says actor was a man to be 'admired and loved'

Sir Sean Connery's only brother, Neil Connery, was too upset to speak at his Edinburgh home today.

The Scots James Bond icon died aged 90 on Saturday.

Neil's wife, Eleanor, answered the door of their bungalow in the suburb of Corstorphine.

She told the Record: "He's just very upset at losing his only brother."

And she told how the sense of loss was compounded at not being able to travel to be at his brother's side in his final moments because of coronovirus restrictions.

Eleanor said: "He would've gone but, of course, given the times we're in, nobody can travel anywhere for any reason so that's upsetting too."

Neil has been tackling his own health issues after being struck down by a "tummy bug", said Eleanor.

She told how Sir Sean's son, Jason, broke the devastating news in a phone call this morning.

"Jason phoned me this morning just to say Sean had died - what else can you say?"

Asked about Sir Sean the family man, as opposed to the movie icon, Eleanor said: "He was a person to be admired and loved and we just feel it's the end of an era.

"And that's really all I have to say because anything else would be meaningless."
