Wife of Brit software tycoon John McAfee says she was ordered to poison him

The wife of Brit software tycoon John McAfee, who was found dead in his jail cell earlier this week, claims she was ordered to poison him in the first years of their relationship.

The notorious tech guru and his wife Janice met when he lived in the jungle with a harem of seven women.

Janice, 38, and the 75-year-old were on the run during most of their life together.

Speaking back in 2019, Janice revealed she spent the first two years of their romance passing secrets about McAfee to the criminal underworld.

John met Janice when he hired her as a prostitute in Miami Beach, Florida, in December 2012.

"I had to provide them with information about John and his whereabouts," Janice told The Sun.

"They wanted me to do things like hide poison in his food and let them in the house where he was staying."

The mum-of-three then fell desperately in love with the once-multi-millionaire from Gloucestershire - but claimed she was too terrified to disobey the cartels orders.

Speaking back in 2019, McAfee believed the cartel bosses were hired to get information on him by the Government of Belize in Central America, where he used to live.

He previously claimed Belizean officials had tried to kill him, an accusation the nation's Prime Minister Dean Barrow has dismissed, instead labelling him “extremely paranoid, even bonkers”.

John said that he forgave Janice when he eventually worked out what was going on, as he knew she was in an impossible position.

He added: " When she finally came clean it was beautiful.

"She was doing that for a couple of years actually.

"For me I did not mind. She was in a hard place but when she finally came clean it was a beautiful moment."

McAfee took his own life in his prison cell in Barcelona on Wednesday after the Spanish high court authorised his extradition to the United States to face tax evasion charges, his lawyer told the Reuters news agency.

The anti-virus software creator enjoyed such a high profile he claimed he spent the rest of his life being constantly targeted by hackers who saw besting him as "a badge of honour."

Prison surveillance operatives and medical services tried to resuscitate him, but could not save his life, the Catalan Department of Justice said.
