Wife leaves husband of 46 years after affair with busker who played on their street

A wife left her husband of 46 years after having an affair with a lute-playing busker who played on their street.

Lynda Smithson, 66, left husband Kevin, 68, "heartbroken" after returning home one day to confess her love for Edward Fitzgibbon.

Kevin described how he became suspicious of his wife when she started taking an interest in the lute and said she was having lessons.

He also said Lynda, a secretary at the University of Oxford, would go out on long shopping trips up to four times a week.

Kevin, a former vintage car salesman, said: "I’m just devastated and heartbroken that someone I have been with and loved for so long can do something like this to me.

“Early this year, she came home and said she had booked a series of lute lessons. She isn’t musical. I thought it was all very odd.”

Describing another suspicious incident, Kevin told the Sun: "She told me she would be home soon, yet four hours later she came back with just two bags of shopping."

But Kevin's suspicions were confirmed when she saw his wife walking along the street with Edward Fitzgibbon before seeking them lock lips in a loving embrace.

Kevin said he was "heartbroken" and "angry" when Lynda then knocked the door of their marital home one day and said she was leaving him for her musical lover.

During the heated exchange that followed, Kevin said police were called to calm the situation and "words were exchanged".

Now, she is living less than a mile from the former home she shared with Kevin.

When Kevin tracked down Lynda to discuss divorce proceedings, he says Edward called the police who warned Kevin he would be prosecuted if he went near the pair again.

The couple declined to comment, reports the Sun.
