Wife killer Joe O’Reilly is back pumping iron in the prison gym to get fit for his favourite sport – badminton.
The 6ft brute, who bludgeoned innocent Rachel to death with a dumbbell at their Dublin home, is making the most of the one-hour a day he’s allowed to work out.
Sources say the lifer can’t wait to get back on the court with his shuttlecock and racquet after non-contact sports were also given the nod at Wheatfield Prison.
He is not the only one hitting the gym as associates of the Kinahan cartel are lifting weights in Mountjoy.
Gang members on the segregated wing can train for one hour daily.
A source told Dublin Live: “The same regulations apply when it comes to social distancing and sanitation as to outside the jail.
“If there are eight people allowed in the gym at any one time for example, six will be inmates while two will be instructors.
“Associates of the Kinahan cartel, who are on a separate wing away from the general population of the jail, are back training in the gym too.
“Before lockdown a number of them had been throwing their weight around and have already started showed signs of returning to their old ways.”
Kinahan associates are in their cells binge-watching TV documentaries about foreign gangsters to learn how they operate.
The source added: “One of their favourite shows on Netflix is strangely Inside the World’s Toughest Prisons.”
