A husband has faced a backlash from his wife following an incident at their wedding when his step-sister turned up to the ceremony wearing white. The man took to Reddit to explain that his wife had been planning the wedding for months - and it was ruined by the controversy.
She told her husband to ask the family member to leave the event for wearing white, but was sad he did not defend her by doing so.
In the post, the man, who remained anonymous explained: "My mum flew in for the wedding. She lives abroad with her husband and one of her stepdaughters came with her.
"I've never met her husband before or her stepdaughter. Everything was ok until the stepdaughter showed up at our wedding in sparkly white."
The newlywed man went onto explain that he saw his wife's face drop as she saw the step-sister wearing white and was far from impressed.
He said: " I said maybe she didn't know as women in her country wear red. My wife said that was no excuse as my mum would have known. I said I wasn't sure if she would.
"My wife asked me to kick my step-sister out and I said I didn't feel comfortable as they had had such a long flight and spent so much time and money."
He tried to tell her that everybody would know who the bride was and that she did not need to worry but the bride was upset he did not defend her and ask the step-sister to leave.
"As the wedding went on I could see it was really effecting her ability to enjoy, and her friends kept bringing it up. I finally asked mutual family to ask them to leave, but my wife feels it was too little too late and that I didn't defend her," stated the man.
"She says as women there is no way they didn't know, especially my mum, and that I chose to play dumb because I didn't want the confrontation."
In response, many have agreed with the wife - that he should have done more to support her.
One wrote: "He’s the one who put his mother and wife in this awkward situation when a simple phone call, text, email, etc. could have avoided the entire thing."
While another said: "Your wife is right. You didn't defend her. You didn't feel comfortable confronting a direct insult to your wife, at her specific request, at your wedding."
