
Residential areas and farmland are seen flooded Thursday in Omachi, Saga Prefecture. Due to heavy rain lashing the northern Kyushu region since Monday, the town has suffered widespread flood damage and is still partly inundated. Staff and patients at Juntendo Hospital were rescued by boat, along with residents who had evacuated there. An estimated 50,000 liters of oil has also flowed out from an iron factory about one kilometer west of the hospital. The municipal government, the Maritime Self-Defense Force and other organizations are working to retrieve the oil.
