Wider pedestrian areas introduced in Dumbarton and the Vale to increase safety

Some on-street car parking has been scrapped in Dumbarton and Alexandria town centres to create wider pedestrian areas.

West Dunbartonshire Council say the short-term measure is essential to protect communities and ensure people can visit town centres safely.

Bosses say the additional footway space this will create will allow customers queuing outside businesses, and the expected increased visitor numbers, to follow physical distancing guidance.

On-street parking is now unavailable in Church Street, High Street and Castle Street in Dumbarton, and Gilmour Street and Church Street in Alexandria.

The council are calling on motorists to follow signs for alternative parking.
