PITTSBURGH — One day after he was listed as questionable to play Sunday in Green Bay, Steelers wide receiver Chase Claypool was ruled out with a groin injury Saturday.
It's not a surprise, given the way Claypool was trending this week. He was banged up multiple times late in last week's loss to Cincinnati, but was a full participant Wednesday in practice. Then he showed up on Thursday's injury report and was listed as limited. On Friday, he didn't practice at all.
Without Claypool, James Washington will be Ben Roethlisberger's No. 3 receiver again, as he was last week with Diontae Johnson sidelined by a knee injury. The Steelers also will elevate second-year wideout Cody White from the practice squad for the second week in a row. In addition to Johnson, JuJu Smith-Schuster was slowed by a rib injury Wednesday and Thursday.
White, a 6-foot-3 Michigan State product, played nine snaps and caught two passes for 17 yards in his NFL debut. Also coming up from the practice squad is offensive lineman Chaz Green.
Green will be the swing tackle behind starters Dan Moore Jr. and Joe Haeg, who's starting in place of Chuks Okorafor (concussion). Signed by the Steelers this offseason, Green is a veteran with starting experience. He's also a stopgap solution until Zach Banner is healthy. Banner's still on injured reserve but likely will be activated within the next two weeks. He could've returned for this game, but apparently isn't quite 100% yet.
