Wide receiver Brad Hawkins won't attend Michigan this season

Michigan football's incoming freshman class is now down one player.

Camden (N.J) receiver Brad Hawkins didn't arrive in Ann Arbor, Mich., with the rest of the freshmen last month and announced Friday that he won't come to U-M this year.

Though he signed with U-M in February and was expected to qualify academically, he said he'll play at Suffield (Conn.) Academy this year.

Often that prep year allows a player to work on their academics to satisfy NCAA standards, though there's no guarantee that will be at Michigan. A Scout.com reporter wrote on TheMichiganInsider.com's message board that Hawkins' coach said he is open to all schools moving forward.

A 6-foot-2, 190-pound receiver, Hawkins was a four-star recruit and the No. 55 ranked receiver in the 247Sports.com Composite rankings.

Hawkins had been working out with his high school teammate Ron Johnson, a defensive end who also is in U-M's freshman class.
