Wicklow village has gone 'Disney mad' as it transforms into fantasy movie set for new film

The sequel to 2007 Disney film Enchanted, Disenchanted is being shot in Enniskerry in the coming months and the movie production crew has turned the small Wicklow village into a Disney scene straight out of Hollywood.

The village is continuing to be made fit for a princess, buildings are being covered in flowers, lights and some have even been given a fresh lick of pink paint.

Councillor for Bray West Melanie Corrigan said “the whole place has gone Disney mad!”

Wicklow has actually been the backdrop to plenty of Hollywood movies and big budget shows throughout the years with films such as Braveheart, My Left Foot and PS, I Love You all having scenes shot in the county.

Disenchanted will see the original actors from Enchanted, Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey, in picturesque Enniskerry for the production.

Adams even worked in the village before as she filmed Leap Year in 2009.

Owner of Poppies cafe in Enniskerry spoke to Newstalk’s Lunchtime Live earlier this month about getting the opportunity to make the Hollywood star coffee as she worked on the film, “ I did make her cappuccinos. Maybe I’ll make her another cappuccino this time.”

Corrigan said that “we are no stranger to film making in our beautiful village in Enniskerry but this is of a whole new scale, the whole area has been transformed into a Disney village.”

Corrigan is a member of Wicklow’s tourism board and says that “the long term benefit of this for the village will be huge.”

“It will increase the amount of visitors we will see to the whole county,” she explained, “already we are seeing a huge increase in visitors coming to see the set as it is being built.”
