Wicklow primary school sends number of students home after confirmed case of Covid-19

A Wicklow primary school has sent home a number of students after a case of Covid-19 was confirmed on the premises.

Educate Together National School on Hawkstown Road told parents that those in the bubble of the positive case were sent home.

It is currently unknown if a student or staff member tested positive.

In a memo sent to parents last night, which was seen by the Irish Mirror, principal Sinead Watson said: "Please be advised that there has been a confirmed case of Covid-19 in WETNS. 

"A public health risk assessment has taken place and all close contacts are being contacted and advised accordingly."

The school declined to comment when contacted by the Irish Mirror.

The news comes as a primary school in Co Cork also confirmed a positive diagnosis.

The infection at Scoil Chlíodhna Community National School in Carrigtwohill was announced today, with the Cork Education and Training Board being notified.

The school has followed and implemented all guidelines from the HSE and the Department of Education.

Meanwhile, a a north Dublin Montessori was forced to temporarily shut after a child tested positive for coronavirus.

An urgent letter sent by the Department of Health on behalf of the pre-school, seen by the Irish Mirror, explains that the parents of any children deemed to be close contacts have been contacted by the HSE.

The confirmed case was in contact with other pupils just over a week ago.
