Wicklow actor Jack Reynor said filming full-frontal nude scenes in Midsommar made him feel 'vulnerable'

Hollywood star Jack Reynor has told how filming full-frontal scenes in his latest movie made him feel “vulnerable”.

The Wicklow actor admitted he ruled out nude scenes in the past until the right film came along.

Jack, 27, said: “It was an interesting experience to do it, and it was a difficult experience.

“It made me feel more vulnerable than I’d anticipated – and I did think I was gonna feel vulnerable – but I’m really glad I had the opportunity.

“I don’t have an issue with the nudity; it’s more an issue of the mental space that I needed to occupy throughout that entire sequence.

“That was the part I think was really difficult.”

MIDSOMMAR starring Florence Pugh and Jack Reynor... (A24)

The star explained despite the nude scenes taking him out of his comfort zone, he felt the time was right to go for it and shake things up.

Jack told the Hollywood Reporter: “Yeah, I think that was the thing that really stood out for me in the script.

“As an actor, you want to find things to do that haven’t really been seen by a mainstream audience, particularly.

“So, this was certainly an opportunity to do that, and I felt very ready to do it.”

The Irish actor returns to the big screen in Midsommar – the follow-up to Ari Aster’s psychological horror hit Hereditary.

He plays Christian, a student whose relationship with Dani (Florence Pugh) has ended but feeling sorry for her, he invites her to a festival in Sweden.

Upon arrival, the pair’s relationship is tested by sinister pagan rituals.

Jack said of his character: “He suffers a very humiliating and exposing fate and I’ve only ever seen that happening to female characters in the horror genre so it was an opportunity to flip that on its head.
