Wickes and B&Q issue updates on online orders amid huge demand

DIY store Wickes has been forced to open a queue online after huge demand from shoppers before the Easter weekend.

With a long weekend on the horizon and the UK in self isolation, shoppers have inundated the site looking for DIY items and it has now been forced to make changes.

A statement on the Wickes website said: "At the moment we are seeing significant demand for our products and services. As we want to ensure that you have a great experience when on the website we have had to temporarily limit access but will get you on there as soon as we can."

Once customers are at the front of the queue they will then have ten minutes to visit the website. The DIY superstore is still offering home delivery but it has warned customers that they may have to wait longer to get their items.

The statement continues: "Due to the current Coronavirus recommendations, all of our stores are closed but offering a limited Click and Collect service for essential products. Our Home Delivery service is available as usual, however, we are experiencing longer lead times for delivery than usual."

Wickes is also operating a limited click and collect service.

Rival DIY store B&Q has now introduced a queue on its website but is warning customers that stores are closed. However, there is still a click and collect service in operation.

A statement says: "B&Q stores providing contact-free Click + Collect and Home Delivery services only.

"If you have placed a Click + Collect order please come to collect only when you receive a notification to say your order is ready. Stores remain closed."
