Why you'll be wearing clogs this summer

In 2019, our shoe game has taken an unexpected turn.

Hiking boots and flip flops have become high fashion, and, now... clogs

French fashion house Dior is partly responsible for the reboot of the traditional Dutch shoe, which made an appearance during its autumn/winter 2018 show.

Many designers had attempted to bring back the has-been style before that. Gucci, with a fur-lined creation, and Balenciaga, with its controversial platform Crocs. Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior's creative director, created several iterations, from classic black slingbacks to sixties-inspired patchwork designs, not to mention, a hero monogrammed style that made sure the footwear would stick.

Fashion influencers quickly took to the wooden-heeled shoe, which consequently saw the footwear all over the 'gram, with many dusting off their old Swedish Hasbeens in order to recreate the look.

With the style on the rise, it was then up to the 2019 catwalks to solidify the shoes style status.

Miu Miu's heeled creation for spring/summer 2019 elevated the silhouette to a whole new level, with a pattering of clog styles also showing up in Gucci and Coach's summer collections and Ferragamo's pre-fall 2019.

There is now no doubt that the sandal will be a hit this summer. Traditional studded clogs are currently sold at Zara and Mango, while more party-ready heels are available at Topshop and & Other Stories.

As for how to style the shoe in 2019?

Instagram has a myriad of OOTD ideas that prove the humble clog is actually a versatile item to have in your wardrobe. As stylish paired with a holiday-ready sundress or an edgy double denim ensemble.

The shoes continued to storm the catwalk at Molly Goddard, Alexa Chung and Lavin's autumn/winter 2019 shows, so get ready for the bulky footwear to be around for a while yet.
