Why you can ignore the rumors that some teams like Zach Wilson better than Trevor Lawrence

The NFL gets really weird from February to May. Everyone seems to have too much time to think about college football prospects.

The result is a mishmash of misinformation and overthinking about the NFL Draft. And we see a conversation like the one taking place this week. There are supposedly multiple NFL teams that have BYU quarterback Zach Wilson rated as a better prospect than Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, per the president of Optimum Scouting, Eric Galko.

Lawrence had long been considered the consensus projection for the No. 1 overall pick. A no-brainer. A shoe-in. The obvious, smart and easy decision. Until now?

NFL draft insider Matt Miller suggested one NFL team has Wilson over Lawrence. And the former head coach of the Atlanta Falcons and San Diego Chargers, June Jones, told Yahoo! he rated Lawrence as the third-best quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft.

A contrarian chorus isn’t uncommon during draft season. But there are so many reasons for teams to spread misinformation. So let’s make sense of this talking point.
