Why Yannick Bolasie has not been allowed Everton training return

Everton decided not to allow Yannick Bolasie and other returning loan players to train with the squad at Finch Farm on health and safety grounds.

Bolasie, who has spent the majority of the season with Sporting Lisbon, voiced his frustration at not being granted permission to train with the Blues in a post on social media on Tuesday, saying he made the request 42 days ago.

The ECHO understands that Jonjoe Kenny, who has been at Schalke, and Mo Besic, who spent the campaign with Sheffield United, for example, have also not been granted access to return yet either.

The winger tagged the Premier League and Prime Minister Boris Johnson in on the Twitter message and cited 'government guidelines' for the reason he believed he has been kept away from Finch Farm.

The Premier League insist they have not imposed any restrictions on Bolasie's return to training and the ECHO has been told that in order to ensure they keep Finch Farm as bio-secure as possible - and keep the club's 'testing bubble' to only those players and staff involved in final part of the season - Everton have asked returning players to train at home for the time being.

Bolasie, Kenny and Besic, for example, are not eligible to play competitively for the Blues until next season and so the club want to ensure access to the Halewood facility is limited to those involved in what remains of the campaign.

In the latest set of COVID-19 testing results issued by the Premier League on Monday, zero positive cases were identified from 2,208 players and club staff tested.
