'Why would I?' - Newcastle United deal Nottingham Forest major transfer blow

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has issued a blunt transfer update on Dwight Gayle.

Gayle has been heavily linked with a move to Nottingham Forest this month, with Sabri Lamouchi's side keen to ease the burden on star striker Lewis Grabban.

Former Crystal Palace striker Gayle went off injured 28 minutes into today's 1-1 Premier League draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

It was his first start since the Boxing Day 4-1 defeat at Manchester United and only his second of the season, but .

Gayle has also been linked with Premier League side Aston Villa, while Championship promotion rivals West Bromwich Albion have also been credited with an interest in the 29-year-old.

But Bruce says there is no chance of him being allowed out on loan this month.

“How many times? I just said to the press yesterday,” said Bruce when asked about speculation surrounding Gayle.

“I’ve been asked this question time and time again. Why am I going to let him go on loan? And to where?

“It’s not possible, not with the problems we’ve had.

"I’ve said that from day one.

“I’ve waited for him for two and a half months because he’s been injured, then the team has done OK so he’s found it a struggle to get in.

"I’ve started him twice in the last four or five games.

“He was excellent today.

"He’s not going anywhere, it’s quite simple.”
