Why West Ham ace Manuel Lanzini shoved Chelsea star Reece James in fiery encounter

Manuel Lanzini was involved in a heated clash with Reece James after slamming home his penalty to put West Ham level at the London Stadium on Saturday.

Chelsea led twice through a Thiago Silva header and a fantastic goal by Mason Mount, but they were pegged back on both occasions following a penalty from Lanzini and a strike from Jarrod Bowen.

With four minutes left on the clock, substitute Arthur Masuaku's speculative shot - or cross as some have deemed it to be - beat Edouard Mendy at the near post to give the hosts a well deserved 3-2 win.

All of the goals had their respective talking points, but one of the main highlights of the penalty strike was Lanzini's fiery exchange with James.

Lanzini was set to take the spot-kick and James did what he could to get into the head of the West Ham forward. It didn't have the desired effect as the 28-year-old was able to dispatch his penalty beyond Mendy.

The Argentine clearly had a problem with the Chelsea wing-back's actions as he made a note of barging into him on route to the corner flag as part of his celebrations.

James is a true competitor, and very much a player who isn't easily bullied. He will also do almost anything to ensure his side claim victory, which is why, after West Ham were awarded a penalty, he was in the ear of Lanzini.

Although James' tactic didn't quite work, we'll probably see it used again at some point in the future, and who knows, maybe it will be successful next time round.
