'Why waste the time?' - Kris Boyd questions Rangers SFA appeal over Celtic calls

Kris Boyd reckons it is a waste of time for Rangers to demand answers from the Scottish FA over Alfredo Morelos' disallowed goal against Celtic.

The Ibrox striker had thought he had fired his side ahead in the first half as he prodded home from close range at Celtic Park.

However, the goal did not stand with Kevin Clancy ruling Morelos had fouled Alistair Johnston in the build-up to the goal.

Replays of the incident showed both players tussling in the box before Johnston fell to the floor as Morelos finished.

It's understood Rangers will demand answers from the Scottish FA over the performance of officials in the powderkeg tie having been left furious in particular over the disallowed goal flashpoint.

While Boyd reckons the goal should have counted, he has questioned what the point is behind going to the governing body over the complaints.

On Sky Sports, he said: "I don’t know what for. What are they going to write back? Why waste the time? It’s done, it’s finished, move onto the next game.

"You can understand but you worry where the game is going if that is a free-kick. It's good play by Alistair Johnston I must say, he knows he's caught underneath the ball, both are having a little tug of their shirts, and he decides to throw himself forward.

"Clancy has bought it but for me, and it would be the same at the other end, if we are chopping goals off for that, I wonder where football is going.

"It is good and clever a play by Johnston as the referee needs to make a decision. It's went against Rangers on this one but when you give the referee the opportunity to make a decision, it can go either way."

Michael Beale had admitted his frustration over the decision but absolved Clancy of blame, instead questioning decisions from VAR officials.

He said: "I'm disappointed in one or two decisions from the officials. The VAR officials. Not Kevin on the pitch because I think if you look at the goal that’s disallowed for Alfredo Morelos.

"You look at the number on the back of his shirt, why is their guy not trying to play the ball?

"Only Alfredo's trying to play the ball, they both got a hold of each other, but Alfredo's numbers twisted around his back. I think it's a goal. I think it's a soft one."
